3 mins

Faced with an ongoing shortage of bus drivers, Nerima Ward has expanded  the trial of its On-demand Taxi Service with SWAT Mobility, building on the success of the pilot launch.

Starting from October 1st, 2025, residents of Nerima Ward can travel between 49 designated pick-up and drop-off points around the Minami-Oizumi and Higashi-Oizumi districts using the On-demand transport service.

The updated service offers several enhancements, including 9 additional stops, a doubled duration and extended service hours on weekdays and Saturdays. These improvements aim to optimise the On-demand Taxi service, supporting Nerima Ward’s ongoing efforts to build a more sustainable and efficient transport network for the future.

The service runs on SWAT Mobility’s AI on-demand transport system powered by the company’s proprietary dynamic routing algorithm. It also incorporates road data from Zenrin, a leading provider of navigation services in Japan, along with SWAT Mobility’s machine learning technology to accurately predict travel times, ensuring that every journey is efficient and comfortable. Furthermore, all route plans are fine-tuned using over 200 parameters to optimise ride-sharing, while travel data is continuously analysed to identify areas where service can be improved.
