SWAT's Ridership Strong in Sembcorp Marine at Tuas, Singapore

Singapore - Since March 2019, employees of our client, Sembcorp Marine, have been commuting between their homes and worksite using SWAT’s employee transport service powered by our demand-responsive, shared transport technology.

The company’s move earlier this year to its new corporate headquarters at Tuas resulted in inconvenience to more than 1,000 of its employees, who now have to make their way to the far west of Singapore every day. Concerned about retention and employee satisfaction, Sembcorp looked for a transport provider that could provide greater convenience and shorter travelling time for their employees. They engaged us to provide more efficient employee transport as our technology enables them to be picked up closer to their homes. This is possible as our algorithm pools all the employees and generates optimised bus routes for their commute.

SWAT’s service for Sembcorp Marine’s employees currently covers about 335 pickup points and close to 80 MRT stations, a significant increase from the previous 9 pickup points. A majority of the employees walk only 5-10 minutes and no longer need to make multiple transfers in order to reach their pickup points. Employees can change their pickup and drop-off locations on their existing fixed route within their monthly pass. They also have an added sense of assurance about the buses’ arrival with the visibility of real-time bus location on the passenger app. This increased convenience and flexibility is a stark improvement compared to Sembcorp Marine’s previous transport service.

Sembcorp Marine acknowledges that our team has been very receptive to their feedback. We continuously work on our apps and our operations to provide a reliable service. Since launch, SWAT has introduced new features, such as the Single Trip feature, to improve the transport experience for our riders. Most of the employees are on a monthly commute plan, and the Single Trip feature allows them to make ad-hoc changes to their daily commute plan. With this feature, employees from the other offices, contractors or anyone else going to the Tuas headquarters can book a ride using our app.

At present, the daily ridership stands strong at about 1600 employees (over 3000 trips) per day. Employees have expressed satisfaction with our service, with one rider leaving this note on our app,

“The transportation is really excellent. I have a lot more quality time with my family.”
